Twickel College Hengelo
A large and bright atrium - the heart of this school
At this school, we have meticulously preserved the original structure from the 1970s and designed a completely new school around it. This approach provides significant sustainability benefits by reusing the existing concrete and steel framework, while also being cost-effective.

The building is not only surrounded by greenery but also incorporates it within. At the heart of the building is a large, bright atrium where students can gather in a greenhouse-like environment.

A rolling landscape
This central green square resembles a rolling landscape. In the five appendices, each with its own theme, you’ll find enclosed classrooms and open workspaces.
Open workspaces
Throughout the school, open workspaces have been thoughtfully integrated, each with its own unique character. Open does not mean without a sense of security: every space is designed to provide a feeling of belonging, allowing students to focus and connect in an environment that feels both welcoming and supportive.

The benches and tables are crafted from reclaimed beams that were no longer suitable for construction but have been given a second life as furniture.
